Questions & Answers

Is the KODAK 6850 Photo Printer compatible with both PC and MAC computers?

The KODAK 6850 Photo Printer operates with a PC using a WINDOWS 2000 or XP driver.

If a computer does not have USB 2.0, how can I use the printer?

Most new computers are being built with USB 2.0 interfaces. If a computer does not have USB 2.0, it most likely has USB 1.1. The printer can still be used with a USB 1.1 computer, although you may see slightly longer data transfer times for printing. If the computer does not have a USB interface, you will need to install a standard USB card. If the computer does not have a USB port, it probably does not meet the minimum configuration requirements.

Will the KODAK 6850 Photo Printer produce both glossy and matte prints?

The KODAK 6850 Photo Printer produces glossy prints. Typically, the event market requires only glossy prints.

Will the donor ribbon and paper be used at the same rate?

The kit is designed to use paper and ribbon at the same rate. However, there is extra receiver on both the front and end of the roll. When the receiver is first loaded, the outer wrap of the roll is ejected as blank prints to ensure that no fingerprint oil contaminates the printed photos. No donor ribbon is used during that phase. The receiver roll will print 750 4x6 prints after the initial startup waste.

Extra receiver is needed at the end of the roll to eliminate impressions caused by the paper core and the tape down. Under normal usage, there will be 1 - 2 feet of paper left on the roll. This should be discarded for optimum quality. In the unlikely event that minor ribbon/receiver mismatches occur, the operator is encouraged to change the ribbon and paper together to optimize reliability and quality. Ribbon and paper rolls are not sold separately.

What happens when 4x6s are made on the 6-inch media?

If two 4x6s are printed, they will be cut within the printer and exit as usual as borderless 4x6 prints. If one 4x6 is printed, it will exit as a borderless 4x6 print. The second half of the 6x8 patch of donor is rolled up and not reusable, so it is wasted. The second half of receiver is not used, so there will be some mismatch of ribbon with receiver. If 4x6 prints are made on the 4-inch media, there is no waste.

Why is there no MAC OS support with the KODAK 6850 Photo Printer?

We continue to evaluate many features and the marketplace appeal and make necessary trade-offs to arrive at the final product and targeted cost. The MAC OS support, like other features, will continue to be evaluated.

What is included with the printer?

The KODAK 6850 Photo Printer, operator's manual, quick start card, 1.2 m USB 2.0 cable, printer driver CD, trim tray, 3r/4r print catcher, 6-inch receiver flange set, and power cords (3—for U.S., Europe, China/Australia).

What is the warranty on the KODAK 6850 Photo Printer printer?

There is a 12-month warranty with Advanced Unit Replacement (AUR)

Can multiple printers be put on a USB network for printer spooling?

Yes, that is a feature you get with the USB 2.0 interface.
